One organisation may perform several roles across products or activities. Determine the role separately for each product and each step in the supply chain.
Choose your role
- Manufacturer — designs a product or places it on the market under its own name or trade mark.
- Importer — places a product from a non-EU manufacturer on the EU market.
- Distributor — makes a product available in the supply chain.
- Authorised representative — performs only the tasks covered by the manufacturer’s written mandate.
- Open source — determine whether you are a manufacturer, software steward or contributor.
- Conformity assessment body — learn how to seek notification.
- Buyer or user — choose, use and update digital products more safely.
A substantial modification or placing a product on the market under your own name can change your role. Use the role finder if you are unsure.
